USMC celebrates 230th birthday
The United States Marine Corps officially began on November 10, 1775 in a small tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. And every year around this date, Marines in every clime and place, on ship, shore or in combat, take time out to remember the creation of the Corps and all who have served to make it great.
This year, Captain Brian Chontosh will be the guest of honor. He is a Churchville-Chili native, a graduate of R.I.T. and a veteran of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Capt. Chontosh was awarded the Navy Cross by the Commandant of the Marine Corps in a ceremony May 4, 2004 for extraordinary heroism during actions against the enemy on March 25, 2004.
This year, Rochester Marines will be gathering on Saturday, November 5, at the new facility at Carey Lake, Rt. 441, Walworth, NY. Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by the official cake cutting ceremony at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:45 p.m.
The Coup DeVilles will be playing live from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with Sound Memories D.J. service filling in while the band is on break.
The Marine Corps Ball celebration is open to anyone who would like to attend. Members of all services, current or veteran, as well as all Americans who support the efforts around the world are invited. Ticket are $45 per person or $85 per couple. Dress is black tie/formal.
