End of season canal sweep complete
The Adopt-A-Trail Committee of the Town of Sweden conducted its fifth annual end-of-season sweep of the Erie Canal towpath on Saturday, November 5. About 60 volunteers participated in the program this year, performing more than 250 hours of service on the canal bank, especially litter removal. The project is organized statewide by the New York Canalway Trails Association and the NYS Canal Corporation. Locally, the Town of Sweden is the sponsor, in cooperation with the Village of Brockport. Bill Andrews is the coordinator.
Participating locally for the fifth year are the Brockport High School Girls' Swim Team, the First Presbyterian Church, the Brockport Garden Club, the Brockport History Club, the Middle School Retirees, the Walks and Talks, the Brockport Federal Credit Union and the Coffee Cup Campers. Each group is assigned a section of the canal path for policing and is expected to make at least one cleanup walk a month during the canal season. The Town of Sweden is unique in the state for the consistency and longevity of its participation in this program.
