as a New York state page Byron-Bergen sophomore Ashley Elliott, daughter of Karen and John Elliott of Byron, traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Biennial Convention of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). For three years, she has been a "Young Shadow" for the Genesee County Women's Republican Club and has worked as a volunteer at their fundraiser events and legislative functions. Last spring she was nominated by local officials for the position of New York State Page and was later selected from dozens of other state-wide applicants. As a page, Elliott assisted the NYS representatives during conference and committee activities and was honored as state flag bearer for opening ceremonies. During the four-day event she participated in a variety of political and policy workshops. Elliott is a high honor roll student and member of the JV soccer and basketball teams. She says she will continue to volunteer locally and enjoys being a member of the NFRW. November 13, 2005 |
