Volunteers pack Thanksgiving gift boxes in Brockport.

Food Shelf helps those in need

Ninety-three families celebrated Thanksgiving with a traditional dinner in their own homes, thanks to the generosity of Brockport area residents.

On Saturday, November 19, more than 15 volunteers, representing the Free Methodist Church, The Mom's Club, the Food Shelf Board, as well as the youth in the community gathered at the Veteran's Club to assemble food baskets. Martin Farms and community members donated food items. Turkeys, milk, eggs and margarine were purchased from Ryan's Big M and delivered to the Veteran's Club. The Mom's Club baked pies.

The Brockport Ecumenical Emergency Food Shelf thanked everyone who helped make this event possible. The need for Christmas baskets may even be greater, the group is asking for help in donating these needed food items: jello, canned fruit, muffin or bread mixes, non perishable dessert items, cans of French's french fried onions and cream of mushroom soup. Donations may be delivered to participating churches. Monetary donations will help to purchase perishable food items, such as ham, milk, eggs and margarine. Send monetary donations to 152 Main Street, Brockport, NY 14420.

Anyone in need of a food basket for Christmas, the deadline for requests is December 9.
