Bees sweep to second state title
Byron-Bergen took just nine games over four rounds to sweep their way to a second consecutive New York State Class C girl's volleyball title.
After winning their fourth straight Section Five title, the Bees advanced to the state tournament in Oneonta. A 25-13, 25-18 sweep over Section IX Center-Moriches, 25-23, 25-15 victories over Section II Lake George and 25-18, 25-18 wins over Section XI Rhinebeck in best-of-three rounds moved the Bees into the state final and a rematch against Rhinebeck in a best-of-five. A 25-11, 25-21, 25-15 whitewash set off the Bees celebration.
Alyssa D'Errico had 55 kills, 49 digs and 19 aces over the four rounds to lead Byron-Bergen. Kate McCormick had 29 kills and 17 blocks while Shavaugn Bartz added 92 assists. In the final, Bobbi Nelson added 16 digs.
