Hilton varsity swimmer sets school record
Whitney Hickey, a sophomore at Hilton High School, earned the opportunity to compete in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championship in Buffalo. To qualify for this meet, there is a qualifying time that needs to be met. The weekend before the state meet, Hickey competed in the Class A Section V Swimming and Diving Championships at Brockport State. She swam faster than the state qualifying time in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Also while swimming at the Section V Championships, she set a new school record in the prelims of the 100 butterfly. Last year as a freshman, she qualified in the 100 butterfly. This year was the first time that Hickey swam in two individual events as well as qualified to come back and swim in the finals on day two of the competition.
