Bees drop basketball opener
Byron-Bergen led after the first quarter, but could not hold off the Golden Knights from York in a season opening 48-38 home loss.
"We played like it was our first game of the year," said Head Coach Jason Blom. "With the soccer team being successful and their season being extended, we had to cancel our scrimmages so it was literally our first game. We gave up too many second chance baskets."
A field goal from Dan Brumsted, a free throw and lay-up by Mike Langdon and two baskets from Taylor Stefaniak staked the Bees to a 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Golden Knights outscored the Bees 34-19 over the next two quarters to hold a 42-28 lead after three quarters.
Matt Flannery knocked down two baskets in the fourth quarter along with single field goals from Justin Amesbury and Stefaniak with a pair of free throws by Jon Flannery, but the Bees could not close the gap.
Stefaniak led all scorers with 14 points while the Flannery's combined for 13 points to lead Byron-Bergen. The team was just five of 14 from the free throw line.
