Laura Gruschow, of Chili, has been named to the dean's list for the fall quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT's College of Science, Gruschow is studying general science. Gruschow, daughter of Mike and Jill Gruschow of Chili, is a 2005 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


SUNY Cobleskill freshman Chris Burke, a graduate of Spencerport High School, competed with the Fighting Tigers Men's 4 X 2000 Relay at the SUNY Cobleskill indoor track and field program.


Bob Ottley, owner of One Step Tree & Lawn Care in North Chili, received the seventh annual Leadership Award at the 2005 Green Industry Conference and Expo in Orlando. The award, given to six green industry professionals, was presented by Bayer Environmental Science and Lawn & Landscape magazine. A four-page article on Ottley in Lawn & Landscape magazine chronicled his penchant for the lawn and landscape business from the age of 19. Ottley founded One Step in 1976 and has grown it into the largest locally owned tree and lawn service in Monroe County.


The New York State Recreation and Park Society (NYSRPS) announced that Eric Bacon, director of Parks and Recreation for Ogden Parks and Recreation, has achieved the status of Certified Park and Recreation Professional. This nationally-recognized certification acknowledges a high level of dedication and competency in the field of recreation. Attainment of this status not only provides professional recognition, but serves as a guarantee for municipalities and communities that their employees exemplify the necessary commitment, knowledge and qualifications for such employment.


Kelly E. Cholewa, daughter of Bertram and Nancy Cholewa, Spencerport, has been named to the Ohio Northern University dean's list for the fall quarter 2004-05. She is a junior majoring in civil engineering.
