Golden Eagles wrestlers ranked 4th in nation

Brockport used a pin by junior Don Ooten and major decisions by Shaheim Bradshaw and Pat Bennett to defeat Cortland 22-12 in Division III college wrestling. It was the first dual meet of the season for both teams.

Ooten won his 149 lb. match by pin in 2:05. Bradshaw, ranked second in the country in his weight class, defeated his opponent at 157 lbs. 20-6 and Bennett, ranked seventh, took his heavyweight match 11-2.

Tony D'Ambra, ranked number one in the country at 133 lbs., fought through numerous leg cramps in an 11-5 win.

Former Kendall Eagles teammates Troy Tooley from Cortland and Donald Williams wrestled each other at 165 lbs. Williams took an 8-0 lead before Tooley scored an escape and takedown late in the second period to close to 8-3. Two third period escapes by Williams sealed the 10-5 victory.

The other winner for the Golden Eagles was freshman Eric VanPatten at 174 lbs. by a 4-0 score.

Brockport's only other home meet of the season is Wednesday, February 1 versus RIT. The Golden Eagles are ranked fourth in the nation in Division III.
