Students who fit the academic criteria must complete an application. This form includes a list of their school and community activities, a couple short answer questions, two endorsements (one must be from a teacher) and their service record. The Faculty Council, comprised of one member of each department, reviews the applications and looks for evidence of the other three criteria (leadership, character and service) and makes the final decisions on the selections.
The induction featured the traditional candle lighting ceremony where current members spoke on the four qualities required for membership: scholarship, leadership, character and service. The guest speaker was Kevin Mead, our teacher for the year 2004-05. A current NHS member escorted each new member to the stage as he/she was introduced. The inductee then signed the official register and was presented with his/her membership card and pin by NHS President, Molly Fillion. NHS Advisor, Janice Spiotta, formally accepted new members into the chapter while Principal Bill Geraci was on hand to welcome guests and congratulate new members. All were invited to enjoy a reception in the cafeteria following the ceremony.
