PIG students donate to hurricane victims
Seniors in Kelly Daly's seventh period Participation in Government (PIG) class in Spencerport spent two weeks collecting supplies to help the preschool children at an elementary school in Louisiana that was looted following Hurricane Katrina.
The L.W. Ruppel School in Marrero, Louisiana is located about five minutes from downtown New Orleans and has 44 preschool students.
Class members here collected supplies such as folders, paper, crayons, markers, glue sticks and backpacks. Supplies were collected at the high school's Winter Chorus Concert on Tuesday, December 6.
Local businesses also helped. Among those, Brockport Computers donated two computers, Lift Bridge Book Shop in Brockport donated curriculum supplies.
The biggest challenge for the class was to ship the supplies to Louisiana. Money for shipping was raised by selling Buckman's Car Wash tickets. Supplies were packed up for shipping on Tuesday, December 20.
