New voting equipment on display
Commissioners Peter Quinn and Tom Ferrarese announced that they have arranged with three vendors to provide the community with a first look on January 5 at equipment that the vendors intend to submit the New York state for certification. The voting equipment display will be open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. at the Fair and Expo Center at Minett Hall, on the south side of the Dome Center in Henrietta.
Everyone is invited. A survey form will be provided to let the Board of Elections know what the public thinks of each type of voting equipment. Additional comments will be welcome after the event.
For those coming with a group, let the Board of Elections know by January 3, the group name, how many will be in the group and the time it plans to arrive. This will help avoid delays in getting people registered and into the display.
There have been many questions recently about new voting equipment required to meet the regulations under the Help America Vote Act. The New York State Legislature has passed legislation that provides the framework for what type of voting equipment that will be used in New York. The State Board of Elections is responsible for certifying equipment that will meet these requirements. Each county Board of Elections will then choose the type of voting equipment that they will use.
