Brockport PD gives Santa a helping hand
Santa took a bit of time off from his nightly rounds of delivering gifts to good little girls and boys to spend some time with members of the Brockport Police Department and help them with their holiday delivery - to 120 residents of Lakeside's Beikirch Care Center.
At a November appreciation dinner, members of the Explorer Post sold raffle tickets for a wide screen television donated to the Explorers by Kelly Lewis of State Farm in Brockport. The raffle raised more than $1,900, half of which went to the Explorers for necessary equipment for the upcoming year with the other half going towards gifts for Care Center residents.
"It was great seeing so many of the officers getting into the spirit of the season," Sergeant Mark Cuzzupoli said. "They came in on their day off and volunteered their time to help deliver gifts."
The week the gifts were delivered, the officers had seen their job range from dealing with a bank robbery with a suspect who said he was armed with a bomb to wrapping and delivering gifts to the elderly. "We really saw the extremes of the job that week," Cuzzupoli said.
The looks on the faces of the residents and the thanks given to the officers by the family members of the residents brought smiles to everyone, Cuzzupoli said.
In addition to the individual gifts, the police department had enough money left over to purchase a wide screen television for use by the residents.
