Walther 70th Brockport football All-American
Senior linebacker John Walther became the 41st different football player and eighth linebacker to earn All-American status when he was named to the Don Hansen All American Third Team. The 41 Golden Eagles have garnered 70 All-American awards since the team's inception in 1956.
Walther registered more than 100 tackles for the second consecutive season and earned American Central Football Conference player-of-the-week three times. He was the fourth Golden Eagle with over 300 career tackles.
In addition to the Hansen honors, the Dansville native was also named to the Football Gazette First Team All East Region and was All-ACFC. With brother Matt, they are the only brothers in Brockport football history to each earn All-American status.
Brockport finished the season as co-champions of the ACFC with a 4-1 record and 5-5 overall. Their ten-game 2006 season begins with a trip to league rival Salisbury State in Maryland September 9. The Sea Gulls are one of five teams on the schedule who advanced to the postseason in 2005.
