Holley Elementary student receives "Soaring to New Heights" Award
Holley fifth grader Bethany Annal was the recipient of the January "Soaring to New Heights Award." She accepted her certificate at the board of education meeting on January 23.
Each month, the district recognizes a student at the elementary, middle or high school level for being a positive role model. Bethany was nominated by Principal Brenda Freida for organizing a mitten tree for the holidays. She discovered the idea while reading a magazine, then decided to ask her teacher, Sheri Viscardi, and Mrs. Freida if she could create a mitten tree project at school for needy children.
Upon approval, Bethany then organized the project, sent flyers to all the classrooms in the elementary school, made signs to advertise, and put up a tree in the cafeteria on which staff and students could hang mittens. Thanks to her efforts, 54 pairs of mittens were collected for less fortunate children in the community.
