8th ranked Brockport wrestlers win

Erik Schluth and Anthony Sargent registered pins late in the match to help the Blue Devils come from behind in a 38-18 victory over previously undefeated Penfield in varsity wrestling.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the match with Trevor Irwin winning by pin in 2:34 at 103 lbs., Aaron Raymer using a first period takedown for a 3-0 win at 112 lbs. and Andy Geilach winning at 119 lbs. with a pair of takedowns and an escape.

The Patriots rebounded by winning the next four matches to take an 18-12 lead before John-Martin Cannon turned the tide with an 8-7 victory at 145 lbs. and Justin Jones clinched his match with a reverse with ten seconds remaining in a 10-6 win to tie the match.

Schluth and Sargent, celebrating his birthday, then picked up pins before Bohdan Basisty took an 11-2 major decision at 189 lbs. and Alex Nwaehjor used six takedowns to win 12-5 at 215 lbs.

The Blue Devils improved to 10-3 and are ranked 8th in New York state among Class A schools.
