Eagle Scouts
honored at luncheon

Troop 111, sponsored by the Brockport Rotary Club, had a banner year in 2005 with eight young men achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. They were honored at the annual Otetiana Council Eagle recognition luncheon on February 10. Four of the scouts - Brian Duff, Mark MacEwan, Jon Pack and Joe Sinopoli - were singled out to receive the Council's "Eagle Scout Project of the Month" award. This award is given to the scout whose project is judged to be the most impressive from among all the Eagle candidates in the council for a given month.

The council promotes about 15 new Eagles per month. This is a tribute to the strong support they received from their parents, leaders, other scouts and the community for helping with funding and labor for the projects.

The towns of Sweden and Clarkson have benefited from their projects in the following ways:

Zachary Buell, repaired and waterproofed the observation decks at the Braddock's Bay bird observation sanctuary; Brian Duff, constructed a pavilion near soccer fields at the Clarkson playground; Zachary Geiger, added shelf space and improved delivery access to the Brockport Food Shelf; Mark MacEwan, renovated the swimming records board at the Brockport High School pool; James Meyers, placed informational flyers and labeled storm drains in Sweden and Clarkson, alerting residents to avoid polluting the Braddock's Bay watershed; Jonathan Pack, constructed a walkway allowing residents of the Clarkson Lifetime Assistance home access to a pond on the premises; John Scheda, constructed additional baseball team benches for the Redman Road fields; and Joseph Sinopoli, constructed a meditation pavilion at the Mt. Olivet cemetery.
