Ogden Police invites
senior citizens to attend police academy

The Town of Ogden Police Department offers a Citizens Police Academy (CPA) which will focus on issues of concern to the senior citizen population. This is the ninth year the agency has offered such a class, but the first year it has focused on seniors.

The class will be held on Thursday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. beginning March 9 and ending April 13. Classes will be held at the Ogden Community Center, 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport. There is no cost to the participants for the six week class.

CPA will provide information on elder abuse, identity theft, crime prevention and personal safety, issues of special concern to our senior population. It will also cover information about the criminal justice system and the policies and procedures of the Ogden Police Department. This is accomplished through a series of classes involving instruction by police officers from the Town of Ogden Police Department.

Criminals commonly target seniors and organizers hope that providing more information and understanding to citizens of Ogden will make them less likely to become victims.

During classes, the participants are encouraged to ask questions and give feedback concerning the operation of the police agency. Additionally, citizens bring a wealth of knowledge about community and, particularly, the problems in their neighborhoods. In this way, police are able to learn first hand the concerns of the citizens, according to department officials.

Any senior citizen who lives or works in Ogden and is interested in information or who would like to sign up to attend, can call the Ogden Police Department, 352-2131 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
