Village's Welcome Center, Harvester Park recognized with Project of the Year Award
The newly constructed Welcome Center and the restoration of Harvester Park on the Erie Canal in the village of Brockport has earned designation as a Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA). It has earned the recognition for projects under $2 million.
Harry Donahue was elated at the recognition. "I knew we, as a department, did a tremendous job in completing much of the in-kind labor at the project site," the DPW superintendent said. "I am pleased that my crew was recognized by APWA for our part in this project."
APWA's Project of the Year Award was established to promote excellence in the management and administration of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the engineer, and contractors who together have led to a successful completion of a public works project.
Village Manager Ian M. Coyle said cooperation is necessary to complete such a complicated project. "Any time you have government contracts of this magnitude with multiple contractors and vendors, you need a strong collaborative team managing the direction of the project, and I think we had that in our Public Works Department and our engineers, Chatfield Engineers."
Mayor Morton Wexler was on hand at the ceremony with Donahue when the village was recognized.
