School-to-work connections made

Students at Spencerport's Cosgrove Middle School met some engineers and learned about engineering careers during an event Monday, February 6 to mark National Engineering Week. Engineers from Kodak talked with eighth grade students and showed examples of the work of engineers.

Students learned how to assemble a DC motor, the properties of light and how it can be harnessed. Sunglasses were used to demonstrate how to filter colors of light and students learned about digital photography. To encourage the students to take more math and science classes, an "Engineering Jeopardy" game tested knowledge of these subject areas.

High school technology students were invited to establish school to work connections. They met in advance with Kodak Engineer Fred Scott and were assigned reading to prepare them to assist the engineer they would be paired with. The tech students assisted the professionals with demonstrations and helping the Cosgrove students.

This is the eighth year that this group of Kodak engineers came to Cosgrove. They provided pamphlets and bookmarks with information about careers in engineering.
