Scouts celebrate with Blue & Gold events
About 170 people attended the Blue & Gold banquet held February 12, the annual Cub Scout celebration of the birthday of scouting, (and the accomplishments of all the cub scouts), at the Hilton Exempts Club in Hilton. The Cub Scout organization has been in existence for 76 years; the Boy Scouts of America have been in existence for 96 years. Cub Scout Pack 125 has had these banquets for "over 25 years" according to Nahila Haffen, who, with her husband, Kevin, were the banquet coordinators. The theme this year was "Nature" and the Cub Scouts created many table centerpieces based on that theme. Guests included Northern Lights District Commissioner Jim Kunkel, Charter Representative Bert Marlatt, Hilton Mayor Bill Carter and Hilton Vice-Mayor Walt Horylev. The Cub Scout program is a five year commitment leading to becoming a Boy Scout. During the last two years in the program Cub Scouts can advance to WEBELOS status through successful performance of specified activities.
