Saints' Kuntz Player of the Year
Churchville-Chili senior goaltender Danny Kuntz was named the Monroe County High School Hockey League White Division Player of the Year for the 2005-06 campaign.
Kuntz was joined on the season-ending all-star team by teammate Kyle Easton, who was named second team defenseman. The two helped the Saints to a 14-5-1 overall record and fourth place finish in the division. The win and point totals tied the school records set during the 2003-04 season.
"At the beginning of the year, our coach was big on setting goals and I wrote down that I wanted to be the Player of the Year, the top goalie in our division and lead my team to the sectional finals, so hopefully one more on the way," said Kuntz. "I would like to go from here to play college somewhere - hopefully Canisius or Niagara or somewhere in the Buffalo area Division I. That's my ultimate goal. Before that I'm on a travel team that is going to states."
Kuntz made 389 saves during the regular season in 17 plus games. He had a .935 save percentage and a 1.57 goals against average during the regular season and led all White Division goaltenders in the same categories in division match-ups. Easton scored eight goals and added five assists in 18 games from his defense position.
Spencerport forward Andrew DiAntonio was also named a First Team all-star in the Blue Division and Brockport forward Eric McJury was named to the second team in the Red Division.
SUNY Brockport's hockey program was also well-represented as all three Coach of the Year recipients are graduates: Rush-Henrietta's Brian Kleeman, Webster Thomas' David Evans and Bishop Kearney's Chuck Dossier. Dossier's Kings also won the Fraser MacKenzie Sportsmanship award, as did Batavia and the Greece Lightning under former Golden Eagles Paul Pedersen and Mike Militello, respectively.
