Firemen's Home opens time capsule
In a ceremony outside the chapel of the Firemen's Home, Hudson, New York, and in the shadow of the new state-of-the-art Firemen's Home building under construction, a time capsule from 1966 was extracted from a cement slab built into the existing building.
Thomas J. Mooney, president of the board of trustees of the Firemen's Home and Edward A. Carpenter, Jr., president of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY), pried a cornerstone from the building structure that encased a copper box filled with memorabilia from 1966. The copper box included two mint 1966 quarters; an acquisition list for the FASNY Museum of Firefighting; a 13-page history of the reconstruction of the Home; a business card for William Kirk, Jr., the superintendent of the Home in 1966; and a 1965-66 directory and photograph of officers and committees.
The 1966 time capsule was opened at this time since the Home is now in the process of creating a new time capsule for the new building that is planning to open later this year.
