Churchville-Chili to present fourth annual "Swing Into Spring"

The Churchville-Chili School District will present their fourth annual "Swing Into Spring" concert to celebrate "Jazz Appreciation Month" on Wednesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Junior High School cafeteria. The evening will feature performances by the Intermediate School Jazz Band under the direction of Christie Ricker, the Chili Peppers Jazz Band led by Terry Bacon, and the SHS Swinging Saints Jazz Band conducted by Kevin Mead. Also performing will be the C-C Clarinet Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet.

For the second year, the Churchville-Chili Music Boosters will turn the junior high cafeteria into the "Orange Note" Jazz Café. To help raise funds for the upcoming music department trip to New York City, 24 tables near the stage will be sold for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. The cost of a reserved table includes beverage (coffee, tea or juice), cake, and table-service for eight people. Free general admission seating will be available in the back of the cafeteria with a la carte beverages and snacks for sale.

Last spring, the Swinging Saints Jazz Band earned its first superior rating and a perfect score at the Classic Festivals Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. This past January, a record nine students participated in the Monroe County Jazz solo festival. Based on his performance at the festival, Steven Brew, a senior pianist, was the first Churchville student to be selected to the top All-County Jazz Band. Brew and his jazz combo, Doppler Effect, will be performing from 6:30 p.m. until the start of the April 12 concert.
