Looking for homes for Katrina dogs
The male Husky pup that Karen Comstock (right) holds is one of 30 Katrina dogs available for adoption at the Scottsville Veterinary Hospital and Adoptions. A woman from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who does dog rescues went to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina passed through and picked up 90 dogs from various Humane Society Shelters, Comstock said. She brought 30 of them to the Scottsville agency in late February and they are waiting for homes and caring owners. The Scottsville facility also is in need of volunteers to help with these new boarders. We really need volunteers at the Scottsville office to care for these dogs on weekends and especially during the week. They would be expected to walk the dogs in a fenced-in yard, spend time with them, socialize the pets and clean the cages. Call 585-889-8340 for information. Scottsville Veterinary Hospital and Adoptions is located at 3750 Scottsville Road, Scottsville. Bottom photo, staffers from Scottsville Veterinary Hospital and Adoptions and Spencerport Veterinary Clinic hold some of the Katrina dogs and pups available for adoption. Interested readers are reminded there is an application process and a fee for adopting these animals.
