Melayne Karnitz, a member of the Class of 2006 at Wells College in Aurora, NY, is playing for the Wells Softball team during the spring 2006 semester. She is the daughter of Michael and Deborah Karnitz of Brockport.
Kimmie Scheg, daughter of Dr. Daniel and Laurie Scheg of Hilton, and a graduate of Nazareth Academy, has been named to the fall 2005 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. She is a junior and is a dual education major. To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester. This is her fifth semester being named to the dean's list.
Among area residents who received degrees at SUNY Geneseo in December 2005 was Meghan Weinpress of Spencerport. She received a bachelor of science degree with a major in biology.
Army National Guard Spec. Eric J. Swartzenberg has returned to the U.S. after being deployed to an overseas forward-operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Swartzenberg is a unit supply specialist assigned to the U.S. Army Health Services Command, 642nd Division Aviation Support Battalion, Brooklyn, NY. He has served in the military for five years.
He is the son of John and Lavra Swartzenberg of Hamlin. The specialist is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.
Navy Seaman Daniel W. Dangialillo, son of Peggy and Dan Dangialillo of Hamlin, and his fellow shipmates made a five-day port visit to Brisbane, Australia while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, homeported in San Diego.
Dangialillo is a 2003 graduate of Brockport High School and joined the Navy in August 2003.
Casey W. Hughson has been promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Hughson, a deputy commander, is assigned to the 509th Maintenance Group, Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Missouri. He has served in the military for 22 years. He is the son of Arnold A. Hughson, and brother of Nancy Berra, both of Bradenton, Florida. His wife, Emily, is the daughter of Robert A. and Ann Schottmiller of Spencerport.
The colonel graduated in 1980 from Spencerport High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1984 from the Citadel Military College of South Carolina, Charleston. Hughson earned a master's degree in 1993 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University through the military extension program at Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Florida.
