Two Hamlin residents were candidates for baccalaureate degrees at SUNY Oswego's 145th Commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 20: Eric J. Chase of Greenridge Crescent (technology education, cum laude) and Catherine E. Chuma of Huntington Parkway (public justice).

Students who graduate with honors are indicated by the traditional Latin phrases summa cum laude, with highest honor (grade averages of 3.8 to 4.0); magna cum laude, with great honor (grade averages of 3.6 to 3.79; and cum laude, with honor (grade averages of 3.30 to 3.59).


Corey Ridd Spencerport class of 2001, graduated from Devry University, in Orlando, Florida. He has received his bachelor's degree in technical management, and graduated magna cum laude. He is the son of Diana Ridd also of Florida and the grandson of Sara and the late Gene Ridd of Brockport. He is employed by the NBA's Orlando Magic basketball team in its IT department.


Winners were named in the pitch, hit and run competition hosted by Sweden/Clarkson Recreation on April 29. Participants who won first place honors in their respective age groups are: age 7/8 overall Shaye Bartnick of Brockport; age 9/10 overall Joe DeFelice of Holley; age 11/12 overall Kevin Carges of Brockport and age 13/14 overall Nick Tryka of Brockport.


The following students have been promoted in the art of Karate by Kyoshi Mark A. Caparco of Caparco Martial Arts: Donald Bellinger ranked to sixth degree; Travis Cody ranked to fourth degree; Richard McKeown ranked to third degree; Thomas LaVigne ranked to third degree; and Richard Sayers ranked to second degree.


State University of New York at Fredonia has named dean's list students for the fall 2005 semester. Dean's list students have earned a grade point average of at least 3.30 or higher for the semester out of a possible 4.0 while carrying a full-time minimum course load of at least 12 credit hours.

Ryan Weidel, Hilton, received the Chamberlain Memorial Missionary Scholarship, the Leadership Scholarship and the Robert & Mary Shultz Scholarship from Lancaster Bible College.


Eric M. Ferrara has graduated from the Recruit Naval Service Training Command, in Great Lakes, Illinois. He is a January 2006 graduate of Hilton High School and is the son of Michael and Cheryl Ferrara.


Army Pfc. Andrew B. Wroblewski has graduated from the Imagery Analyst Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, Arizona. The course is designed to train the soldier to exploit visible, infrared, radio detection and ranging, and spectral imagery.

He is the son of Bruce E. and Debbie D. Wroblewski of Brockport. The private is a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School.
