Hilton schools launch "Operation Local Soldier"

On Friday, May 19, from 6 to 9 p.m., Hilton students from Village Elementary, Northwood Elementary and Quest Elementary schools will join together for a special event to honor the loved ones from the Hilton Central School District and their units that are serving abroad. "Students will hold a common, community service project at Merton Williams Middle School, 200 School Lane, Hilton to write letters to area soldiers as well as dedicate a plaque in the memory of Hilton High School graduate, Jason Hasenauer, which will be presented to the Hilton Fire Department," said Northwood Elementary teacher Amy Jensen Helmer. The elementary students will take this opportunity to get to know one another as they write letters and cards of appreciation to service members, make crafts for Iraqi and Afghani children, swim in the pool and play on the rock climbing wall at Merton Williams Junior High School.

Students from the three elementary schools will join together for the night of fun and citizenship. The Hasenauer Family will be there to receive the bronze memorial plaque, the VFW will recover the flag and members of Hilton Fire Department will also be in attendance.
