SUNY College at Brockport's Professional Education Unit received national accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Professional Education Unit is made up of the six departments that prepare teachers and other professionals for Preschool - 12 Schools: Counselor Education, Dance Education, Educational Administration, Education and Human Development, Health Science Education, and Physical Education.

The U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation recognize NCATE as a professional accrediting body for teacher preparation. It is the teaching profession's mechanism to help establish high quality teacher, specialist and administrator preparation. Through the process of professional accreditation of schools, colleges and departments of education, NCATE works to make a difference in the quality of teaching, teachers, school specialists and administrators.
