OPD advises to "Click It or Ticket"

The Ogden Police Department, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will be conducting a "Click It or Ticket" mobilization to boost safety belt use and to save lives. This concentrated effort will be run statewide beginning May 22 through June 4. Ogden officers will be joined by more than 12,000 other state and local law enforcement and highway safety officials during this national mobilization to crack down on New York's safety belt law violators and to reduce highway fatalities. Safety belt checkpoints and other stepped up law enforcement activities will be conducted during the national "Click It or Ticket" enforcement effort.

Nearly one in five Americans still fail to wear their safety belts when driving or riding in a motor vehicle according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Chief Doug Norquist said regular safety belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. When worn correctly, safety belts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUV's and mini-vans.
