Hamlin VFW celebrates 60 years
June 13 marks the 60th anniversary of the Hamlin VFW Post #6703. It was founded June 13, 1946 and the first Post Commander was the late Harry Burke.
The post first met in the basement of the Hamlin Fire Hall. The property where the Post home is located was purchased on the court house steps in Rochester for back taxes. The last addition to the building was in 1974.
In 1948 the Post started the ambulance corps and turned the keys over to the Hamlin Volunteer Ambulance Corps in 1975.
A 60-year celebration is planned for June 10 at the Post.
