Hardie no-hitter sends Hilton to semi's
Lisa Hardie registered her first career no-hitter and fifth-seeded Hilton scored single runs in the first and last innings in a 2-0 victory over Spencerport. The win sent the Cadets to the Class AA semi-final where they lost to top-seeded Greece Arcadia 4-1 in a rematch of last season's championship game.
Hardie struck out 10 batters for Hilton. The closest the Rangers came to a hit was a fly ball down the line in right hit by Jess Merrick in the third inning that glanced off the right fielder's glove and was ruled an error.
Spencerport loaded the bases on walks in the fourth inning, but failed to capitalize.
Rachel Clonick, heading to the University of Hartford in the fall, led off the game for the Cadets with a triple off the right field fence and was driven in on a fielder's choice RBI by Tara Larkin.
Hilton added an insurance run in their half of the seventh inning when Caileen Childs two-out single scored Hardie from second. Hardie had reached on an error and advanced to second on a fielder's choice.
Spencerport had just one senior on the team, shortshop Kelly Schweikert, who is off to LeMoyne in Syracuse this fall.
