Students jump through hoops
to raise money

Brockport's Barclay Elementary students jumped their way to $16,059.82 during an American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. The second and third graders participated in 30 minutes of continuous exercises during their physical education classes, including jumping rope, jumping through hoola hoops and lateral jumps. Physical Education Teacher Mary Lou Blodgett and Woody Vandenburg educated students about the importance of exercise as it relates to the health of their heart and how everyone should get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Students were also given an opportunity to hang a card honoring a friend or family member who may have suffered from heart disease or a related illness.

The Barclay School was recognized by the American Heart Association last year as being the top new school in New York State to raise the most money. This year's donations exceeded last year's amount by $4,000. Top fundraising students who raised $200 or more this year are: Brittany Allen, Samantha Chaplain, Lauren Duell, Brandon LaMere, Dorothea Mildenberger, Zach Miller and Brianna Wing.
