On Friday, June 2, the Sweden Clarkson Recreation Department hosted its 24th Annual Community Awards Banquet at SUNY Brockport. At the banquet individuals within the community who have dedicated their time and service to the community were honored. Winning the Person of the Year Award was Dr. David L. Jewell, a retired professor from the recreation and leisure studies department at SUNY Brockport for his involvement in getting the Sweden Clarkson Community Center up and running. Jewell also gave crucial guidance in pointing the newly formed Recreation and Parks Advisory Council in the right direction. Also recognized that evening were Nancy Breslawski, Noel Myers, Leah Balmer, Jeffrey Bush and Ally Haight for their outstanding commitment to the community. Guest speaker William Riddell Jr., director of the Town of Ontario Parks and Recreation, spoke of the importance of having community service oriented individuals within communities. June 18, 2006 |
