On Saturday, June 17, VFW Post 202 held a Viet Nam Veterans get together. Viet Nam veterans from VFW Posts, VVA Chapters, American Legion Posts and Navy Clubs from western New York along with family members and friends attended. Also in attendance were members of the Air National Guard and an Army Reserves unit. Activities included the landing of a Med Evac Helicopter and the arrival of a Humvee transport vehicle. Numerous articles of memorabilia from the Viet Nam War era were on display. A Remembrance and Memorial Service was conducted. The Holley area had the highest ratio of Killed in Action servicemen in the United States for its size during the Viet Nam War. Ten young men from the Holley area were killed in Viet Nam. Numerous others have died since due to complications resulting from the war. A picnic was held following the Memorial Service. Music by Bandera provided entertainment into the evening. Next year's Viet Nam Get Together is being planned for the third weekend in July. July 23, 2006 |
