recognized for participation

Julie Scott of Fairport was selected the 2005-2006 recipient of the Norman V. Ryan Memorial Scholarship Award, a recognition offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension and named for the father of Westside News Inc. owner Keith Ryan.

The Ryan Scholarship is a tribute to the life of 4-H alumnus and supporter Norman V. Ryan of Troy, NY. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding 4-H senior who, in the eyes of the selection committee, demonstrates leadership and service, and plans to pursue a college degree as a result of their 4-H experience.

A graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School, Scott was a member of the tennis team and served as team captain during her junior year. She was an active volunteer at the Basilian House throughout high school and contributed community service during the 12 years she was enrolled in the Monroe County 4-H program.

She has been accepted to Finger Lakes Community College 2+2 Program and plans to study Psychology and Human Services in the fall.

Kristy Kline of Churchville-Chili is the recipient of the Ralph S. Harper Scholarship Award for the 2005-2006 academic year. Each year the scholarship, provided by 4-H alumnus and life long supporter Ralph S. Harper of Rochester, is awarded to an outstanding 4-H senior who, in the eyes of the selection committee, exemplifies the values of 4-H achievement, leadership, citizenship and service.

Kline a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, was the Senior Yearbook Editor, head of the Robotics Team, and a member of Churchville-Chili's Chorus Council. She was an active 4-H member for eight years through community service projects, public speaking events, and participation in summer camp. Her leadership skills were best demonstrated through her work as a Counselor at 4-H Camp Wyomoco.

Kline has been accepted to Clarkson University and plans to study Engineering in the fall.

Both awards were made July 16 at the conclusion of the Monroe County Fair.
