Riga Republican Committee
chooses candidate for town board seat
The Riga Republican Committee nominated David L. Smith to run for councilman for the unexpired term of Ron Trinkl on the Riga Town Board.
Riga Committee Leader Steve Brew said, "Dave has demonstrated in just the past few months that he works well with the other elected officials and brings a great perspective of common sense to the position. He has been an effective councilman since being appointed in December and will continue to serve our community well. His past experience of working with people, budgeting and organizational skills are all great assets that he brings to the table."
Smith is employed by Roberts Wesleyan College as the grounds and landscape manager. As the department manager, he is responsible for budgeting, writing contracts, bidding work and supervising a full time staff of eight for the grounds and facility care of 180 acres of the campus in North Chili, according to a press release.
Smith and his wife, Melissa, have been residents of the village of Churchville for 19 years. They have two children.
Smith said, "I look forward to continuing to represent my friends and neighbors in Riga for the upcoming year. The Town of Riga is in an enviable position financially. I look forward to working with residents to address issues in our town that affect our quality of life. Several items that I hope to see brought to the forefront is the update of the Comprehensive Plan, development of our parks and sports fields, water line extensions and drainage issues.
He has served as councilman since January 2006 and is running to serve for the remainder of Trinkl's term, that will expire December 31, 2007.
