Round Goby round-up in the Erie Canal

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Lower Great Lakes Fishery Resources Office (LGLFRO) in cooperation with the Friends of LGLFRO (Friends of Fish), Great Lakes Center at Buffalo State College and Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper will be holding its annual Round Goby Round-Up to track the invasive round goby in the Erie Canal. Participants can fish from shore or from their own boat. A fishing pole and fishing license, for those 16 years and older, are all that is needed.

All round gobies caught will be collected and reported to a national database.

The round-up will be Saturday, August 26 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must register by August 18.

Fishing sites include: Albion Canal Liftbridge, Albion; Sans Souci Canal Park, Clarkson; Brockport Central Liftbridge, Brockport; Genesee Valley Park, Rochester and sites in Niagara county.
