Used tire clean-up scheduled, preregistration required

On September 23, the Orleans County Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor a county wide used tire clean up. Tires can be brought to the Orleans County Redemption Center (next door to the County Emergency Management Office) at 14064 County House Road, Albion between 9 a.m. and noon. There will be a charge of $1.50 per car tire off the rim and $1.75 per tire on the rim. Truck tires, (19-1100 series) will be charged $6 per tire off the rim and $13 per tire on the rim. Tractor tires will not be received at this time.

After delivery, the tires will be shipped to Buffalo where they are ground up and used in construction projects similar to gravel.

Because this is the first time the county has offered this service, the Soil and Water District requests pre-registration of the number of tires to be delivered with their office by September 1. Registration forms are available at the Orleans County SWCD office, 446 West Avenue, Albion or at town halls. Payment is not required until tires are dropped off.
