Three local athletes won gold medals while competing for the Western New York Scholastic Volleyball team at the 2006 Empire States Games. Cal Palumbo, Hilton, Steve Bowers, Gates Chili, and Steve Hughson, Churchville, played on the team comprised of 10 student athletes chosen from the 15 counties of western New York.
