Navy Club of Lake Ontario celebrating anniversary
On October 13, 1996, the Navy Club of Lake Ontario located on Clinton Street in Brockport, held its grand opening. At 10 a.m. the doors of the future seas service museum were open to the public. The tour guides were Ron Ayrault, Lew Randall, Art Kamp and Ed Reese.
The United States Navy recruiting van was there, the recruiters handed out ball caps. Ceremonies commenced at 6:12 p.m. with an opening address by Commander Ed Reese. Then Brockport Mayor Mary Ann Thorpe cast flowers on the waters of the Erie Canal in memory of all departed Navy Veterans. After the mayor returned, there was a gun salute by the Brockport Vet's Club Honor Guard. The playing of "taps" and the lowering of the flags from the Navy Club Mast. Commander Reese introduced Thorpe as the master of ceremonies, she introduced the following speakers: Commander Scott Crossley and Assemblyman Charlie Nesbitt. Thorpe then cut the 221st birthday cake while "Anchors Aweigh" was playing.
On October 13, 2006 the Navy Club of the Lake Ontario will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the ship. The event is open to the public, call the Navy Club at 637-6110. Tour the Sea Service Museum on Friday, October 13 to join in the celebration at 21 Clinton Street.
