Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame induction planned
The Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame will induct alumni into the organization on September 28, at the high school. Inductees are: Brother James Almeter 1964; Beulah "Johnnie Marshall" Bailey 1938 in memoriam; David Crumb 1960; Cathy Cushing Gardner 1968; Jane Harris Grad 1962; Al Skinner in memoriam; Robert G. Stephens 1982; Renee Sorrentino, M.D. 1990; Mary Pickett Townsend 1947.
The Hall of Fame will be honoring the longest-serving sheriff in Monroe County history, Sheriff Al Skinner, who graduated from a one-room schoolhouse on Manitou Road centralized into the Hilton School District in 1949. Bailey was a race car driver and pilot, winning the 1959 Ladies Race at Watkins Glen in her Alfa Romeo and as a member of the Civil Air Patrol in WWII ferried airplanes to the front. Crumb is a professor at RIT; Stephens is a career Navy Officer; Almeter is a Trappist Monk; Townsend is the Hilton village historian; and Sorrentino is a forensic psychiatrist.
Since 1999 there have been 30 Hilton High School alumni who have been inducted in the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame display of inductees is located on the west wall of Hilton High School Auditorium, 400 East Avenue, Hilton.
Open to graduates who have been out of school for 15 years or more, the Hall of Fame seeks to recognize and honor graduates who have excelled in their lives, in their careers and personal lives. Selection is based on a person's achievements, professional honors and awards, community and civic involvements, personal accomplishments and other exemplary life activities. The first Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame Selection Committee was convened in 1999.
The Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame dinner and induction are open to the public. Dinner is $10 per person and will be held at Hilton High School, 400 East Avenue, Hilton. For information and reservations 392-1000 ext. 7045.
