Hilton Cadets come back to beat Greece Athena Trojans
Greece Athena hosted the Hilton Cadets and started the game off with the first score of an eight yard pass from QB Robbie Zappia to Brian Carmody (kick failed) in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Greece's Antonio Clark scored on a one yard run. The two point conversion play from Zappia was intercepted by Hilton's Andy Eichas in the end zone.
Alex Coffey connected with Scott Allis on a 33 yard pass for Hilton's first touchdown (Andy Ellsworth kick) and with 2:10 left in the half, Ellsworth found Athena's Zappia in the end zone for a safety (the second safety in two games). Zappia connected with Carmody again before the half on a nine yard pass (kick by Steve Wakefield) to lead 19-9. After halftime, the Cadets came back to dominate the second half. Jeff "Deuce" Delong crossed the goal line on a three yard run (kick blocked), and with 1:19 minutes left in the game, Coffey connected with Bret Clark on a 25-yard game winning touchdown pass in the end zone (Ellsworth kick).
Hilton's Coffey was 14-for-22/187 yards (9 for 9/107 yards in the second half); and Delong had 93 yards on 20 carries.
This game was featured on Channel 18 as the "Game of the Week." Coffey received "Athlete of the Game" honors and Zappia received "Academic Athlete of the Game."
