Holley introduces "Soaring to New Heights" award for staff and community

For the past year, the Holley Board of Education has been awarding the "Soaring to New Heights" Award to students at the elementary, middle and high school levels who go above and beyond to make their school and community a better place. Now, in addition to recognizing students, the board will select a staff or community member for the monthly award.

Receiving the "Soaring to New Heights" Award at the September Board meeting was Food Service Manager Vickie Scroger. "Vickie frequently goes above and beyond the call of duty to make all of our school functions special events," said Superintendent Robert D'Angelo. Scroger organizes a chicken barbecue for students and staff after the Sixth Grade Moving Up Awards Ceremony; puts together an authentic Thanksgiving dinner for kindergarteners and their parents every year; and last year helped host a Senior Citizen Breakfast.

In October, she will launch "Down on the Farm," a partnership between the Holley School District and local growers that will bring fresh fruits and vegetables right from area farms to cafeteria tables. The project relates directly to the district's new Wellness Policy, according to district officials.
