Golis, Ciliberto to score in win
Kara Golis scored in the first half and Jenna Ciliberto found the net in the opening minute of the second half to lead Churchville-Chili to a 2-0 girls soccer victory over visiting Hilton.
After the Cadets dominated field position through much of the early stages of the game, C-C's Golis took a pass from Ashlee Magar, who was celebrating her 16th birthday, and won a battle with the goalkeeper in the 18th minute.
Just 29 seconds into the second half, freshman Samantha Dunn sent a long cross into the box. The initial pass was deflected to the top of the box, but Ciliberto pounded the loose ball into the right corner of the net for a 2-0 Saints lead.
For most of the game, the Saints back line of Breanna Forger, Rachel Evans, Maria Bradt and Kathryn Rowe kept Hilton's offense to the perimeter in helping freshman goalkeeper Kayleigh Forger make nine saves and register her second shutout.
"We needed to have a game like this," said head coach Nancy Thornton. "Rowe did a nice job shadowing Casey Reinhardt and we took over the middle of the field. The team chemistry is strong, so hopefully we can build on this."
Hilton had two scoring opportunities in the first half and closed the game strong with Reinhardt and Shelbie Siclare generating the chances.
The Saints, starting three freshmen and two sophomores, evened their season record to 3-3-2.
