Saints sweep
Churchville-Chili trailed only in the early stages of two games in a 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 victory over Spencerport in girl's volleyball.
With C-C leading 18-14 in game one, the Rangers called a timeout and scored the next two points to close to within two points of the lead. The Saints recovered quickly on an ace by Becca DeHority and a kill from Carley Youngman on their way to seven consecutive points of their own to close out the game.
The second game was tied at 10-10 before C-C went on a 15-7 run including consecutive kills by Youngman. In game three, the Saints ran out to a 7-1 lead led by back-to-back kills by Laura Schwach and a 15-6 lead when Jitka Guttnerova had kills on two points in a row on their way to a relatively easy victory and the sweep.
Youngman led all players with 12 kills and two aces. Schwach registered eight kills and two aces while DeHority handed out 28 assists with two kills of her own and four service aces as the Saints improved to 6-4.
For Spencerport, defense kept them in all three games led by Kim Parkhurst with 16 digs, Nikki Bourne with 8 digs while Darci Degnan and Sam Campione each chipped in with seven digs. The Rangers had trouble generating offense, though, as Melissa Howcraft led the team with just two kills and saw their record fall to 2-8.
