Lisa Pessia was named to the dean's list at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The Mercyhurst College dean's list is computed at the close of each academic year. It is based on the completion of a minimum of 24 credits with a cumulative index of at least 3.6 out of a possible 4.0. She is a sophomore at Mercyhurst College and a graduate of Spencerport High School. She is the daughter of Frank and Deborah Pessia of Ogden.


Frank A. Pessia, son of Frank and Deborah Pessia of Rochester, was one of 686 collegians who received degrees at the 78th commencement of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania on May 20.

After completing his studies in graphic design he received his bachelor of arts degree.

Pessia is a 2002 graduate of Spencerport High School and is working as a graphic designer at Monotype in Baltimore, Maryland.


GMAC Insurance Regional Sales Manager Barbara Solomon, of Greece, received a Community Service Award from her employer in recognition of her volunteer work for St. Joseph's Villa, a nonprofit agency that works with kids in crisis.

Solomon has been a committed volunteer to the Villa for more than 12 years, and her efforts have been instrumental to the success of the Villa's Golf Tournament and Charity Dinner, which recently completed its 25th year. With her assistance, the tournament has grown into the agency's most successful fundraiser. The annual event has raised more than $700,000 for Villa programs.


Colleen L. MacEwan has accepted a position as a faculty member in the Pittsford Central School District at the sixth grade level, teaching math, language arts and enrichment at the Calkins Road Middle School. A 2002 graduate of Brockport High School, she completed her bachelor of science degree in education from the State University of New York at Geneseo in December 2005, graduating cum laude with a dual-major in Childhood Education/Special Education K-6. She has also earned her certification in Earth Science 7 through 12. She continued substitute teaching while beginning her master's degree program in literacy. She is the daughter of Daniel and Diane MacEwan of Ogden.


Lani Toyama graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance on May 14. She was a featured soloist at the college's Commencement Eve Concert. She is employed as a mainstage principal performer for Disney Cruise Lines. A 2002 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, she is the daughter of Thomas and Cheryl Toyama of Churchville.


Janet Campbell has been awarded Top Sales Person and Top Producer of the month for August, according to Dan Head, manager of the Spencerport Nothnagle office.

Campbell specializes in residential and new construction sales and is currently representing "Iuppa Homes, Inc." Builder Rich Iuppa. Presently Iuppa Homes Inc. and Janet are offering two subdivisions known as Taylor Farms in Churchville and Northview Homes in Brockport/Sweden, which is located off 31A West of Redman Road. Janet is also active in listing and selling existing homes in western Monroe County.

Campbell has received numerous awards in the past including Nothnagle's "Top 25", Zenith Award, and Sales Master Gold and is a member of Nothnagle's Gold Club.

Campbell has been in Real Estate since 1986.


Air Force Airman Thomas A. Burns graduated on October 6, 2006 from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of David and Debbie Burns of Spencerport. Burns is a 2006 graduate of Spencerport School.


PFC Christopher Dutton graduated from Marine boot camp, Parris Island, South Carolina on June 23. He then completed his MCI training at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina before heading out for his technical training in 29 Palms, California. He graduated near the top of his class and is headed to his first duty station in Okinawa, Japan. Dutton is a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School and is the son of Cathy and Howard Dutton of Hamlin.


Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Mark A. Trovato has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The sergeant first class is an instructor normally assigned to the 8th Battalion, 98th Division, 4th Brigade, Fort Dix, Trenton, New Jersey.

He is the son of Anthony and Marie Trovato of Kings Lane, Rochester. His wife, Lori, is the daughter of Lillian Dolan of Woodlands Way, Brockport.

Trovato graduated in 1987 from Bishop Kearney High School, Rochester, and received a bachelor's degree in 1993 from St. John Fisher College.
