Newsmakers for the week of
October 29, 2006


Students from McQuaid Jesuit High School were recognized by the College Board, sponsor of the advanced placement program. Local residents who are students and who were recognized as AP Scholars include Alexander Iacchetta '07, from Spencerport and Imoh Ikpot '06, from Chili. They received grades of three or higher on three or more exams.

John Schott '06 and Erich Weiss, '06, both of Chili, were recognized as AP Scholars with Honors. They had an average grade of at least 3.25 and grades of three or higher on four or more exams.


State University of New York College at Brockport Professor Darwin Prioleau received the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Leadership Award October 18 at the annual conference in Long Beach, California. The Leadership Award is given to an NDEO member who leads with confidence and develops leadership skills in others on a national or international level. Prioleau is chair of the Department of Dance, graduate coordinator and professor of dance at SUNY Brockport. She received her bachelor of fine arts at Bennett College, her master of arts in dance at New York University and her doctoral degree in education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Prioleau is a resident of North Chili.


Virginia J. Duffy, Ph.D. NP, of Hilton was honored at the National Nurses in Business Convention. She was inducted into the Nurses in Business Hall of Fame for her contributions and support of nurses in non-traditional careers. Dr. Duffy has been a self-employed nurse entrepreneur for 15 years. She is a consultant, seminar leader and author. Her new book, Behavioral First Aid: Managing Emotions During Emergencies, is a practical guide to "help the helpers" deal with emotions, (both theirs and others) during crises.


Mila Delgado Sutton of Spencerport received the title of princess in the Miss Hispanidad of Rochester competition, and Miss Talent in the age group of 9-13 years old on October 13. She also received the title of Miss Community Service in all age groups. Mila attends Leo Bernabi Elementary and is in the fifth grade.


Benjamin Plucknette graduated magna cum laude and received a bachelor of science degree from Daemen College in Amherst, on May 20. He is in a six year program and will continue on with his studies to receive a Doctrine of Physical Therapy in 2008.

He is the son of John and Janet Plucknette and grandson of Thomas and Joyce Plucknette of Spencerport.


Randy Mathews completed advanced infantry training as an assaultman at Camp Geiger, North Carolina and has been promoted to the rank of Pfc. He is responsible for the tactical employment of his shoulder-launched, multipurpose rocket launcher and a varsity of demolition explosives. He provides demolitions capability, anti-bunker and anti-armor fire in support of his unit. Mathews is stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

He is the son of Janie and Jeff Mathews of Churchville. Mathews is a 2004 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
