Donahey's 3-point effort leads Cadets
Co-captain Aaron Donahey scored two shorthanded goals and set up the game-winner by Matt Simon as Hilton defeated Churchville-Chili 4-3 in high school hockey.
Just 97 seconds into the game, Hilton's Nick St. Croix scored from Brantley Sherwood and David Slater.
The Saints then took a 2-1 lead on first period goals just 1:19 apart by Ben Rossignolo unassisted and Dan Lupiani with assists from EJ Coyne and Ryan McMillan.
At 11:27 of the first period, Donahey scored his first of the game with a shorthanded effort. He then scored another goal off a pass from Steve Fose while playing one man down for the only tally of the second period.
In the third, the Cadets opened a two-goal lead when Rob Dill passed to Donahey. His wraparound attempt left a rebound that Simon banged home for a 4-2 lead. It was Simon's third game-winning goals of the season.
With 1:27 remaining in regulation and just as Saints' goaltender Bryan Forbes reached the bench for the extra attacker, Ben Rossignolo roofed a shot from the left point with an assist from his brother, Chris, to close the gap to one goal. But the Saints could not get the equalizer
"Our goaltending came up big, but they outplayed and outworked us," said Hilton head coach John Farnham. "We got lucky on a few of our goals." Forbes made 15 saves for the Saints while sophomore Bryan Haude stopped 29 of 32 shots in net for the Cadets, who improved their record to 4-1.
