Scout project
benefits seniors
On Saturday, December 16, Life Scout Joshua Buell along with his siblings, parents, grandparents, members of Troop 111 and their families worked on an intergenerational project to benefit the seniors of the Sweden Senior Center. Over the summer Buell approached Senior Center Director Nancy Duff to get permission to perform this very generous act. He, along with others, put together 50 Emergency Meal Kits to be given to the Seniors for free so that in the event of a storm or power outage, the seniors would have food and water in their homes. Each kit contained: bottles of water, box of raisins, Nutri Grain bars, chocolate cookies, can of beans, pack of tuna, peanut butter cookies, pudding snack pack, juice drink, fruit cup, peanut butter pack, cheese and cracker pack and a sleeve of crackers.
Each box was labeled with the contents, emergency phone numbers including the Brockport Fire Department, Brockport Police Department, Poison Control Center, Brockport Ambulance and RG&E. The meal packs were distributed the week before Christmas. Buell's troop discussed making the Emergency Meal Packs an annual event.
